Shareholder, Ann ArborProfessional Bio
Shareholder Kelly Burris joined our Ann Arbor office as a lateral attorney in the spring of 2007. With an M.S. in materials science and a B.S. in aeronautical engineering, Kelly manages a busy docket that includes patent prosecution, license agreement negotiations, and patent and trademark litigation.
According to Kelly, the best part of joining Brinks as a lateral has been "the welcoming attitude of other attorneys." Comparing Brinks to her previous experience at other law firms, Kelly says, "The values of professional leadership and community involvement are evident, as opposed to the traditional emphasis on the almighty dollar."
At Brinks, everyone is encouraged to establish a healthy work-life balance. Kelly has managed to maintain this balance, and she shows her dedication and commitment both inside and outside of the work place.
When not preparing a patent, writing an opinion, or taking a deposition, Kelly spends her time volunteering for Angel Flight, a non-profit organization of pilots dedicated to arranging free air transportation for individual patients who are traveling for surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis, or other necessary treatments. According to Kelly, "Brinks has been supportive of my work style, as I travel a lot to meet with clients and participate in professional activities; there is no pressure to be chained to my physical office space. The firm has also been very supportive of my community service activities, which include Angel Flight."
We are proud that Kelly chose to join Brinks, where she continues to build her practice by delivering the best client service, sharpening her skill set, and helping junior associates develop into the best attorneys possible. Kelly’s advice to associates starting to build their practices is, "Take care of your clients like they are members of your own family."
Brinks is lucky to have Kelly on our team, and we’re glad that we can provide the platform for what she does best: practicing law and serving the community.
